Wine In a Box? No Really It Is Good.

by Shannon Bradley on September 29, 2010

Octavin WineWhen I think of wine from a box, my mind immediately goes to yucky stuff that I would not go anywhere near. On one of my normal jaunts through my neighborhood grocery store my friend, the wine guy, was out promoting several different wines. Now I say my friend, but I honestly have no idea what his name is, though I stop and chat with him whenever he is there, and of course sample his wares. On this particular day he had some white wine in a box. The large light blue & silver box caught my eye and I started to check it out. I asked about it out of curiosity, but was not really interested in trying it as it was a white wine. I am a red wine drinker. He promised me that all of my preconcived ideas about boxed wine would go by the wayside when I tasted it because it really was very good.

I figured what the hell what do I have to lose, plus it was a Sauvingon Blanc, which is my preferred white wine, if I am going to drink white wine. And if it was bad, no big loss, I have a cracker and try the nice red he also had.  I tried it and much to my surprise, it was good. Actually very good. So good in fact, that I ended up with interesting and eye-pleasing octagonal shaped wine box in my cart and brought the thing home. And I really do not like white wine that much.

It is a three (3) liter container which is equal to over 4 bottles of wine. Plus, with the ever popular notion to “go green” this box is reducing waste by over 85%, as their website notes. I highly recommend the Octavian Home Wine Bar brand Silver Birch Sauvingon Blanc.

Octavin Home Wine Bar’s website says they have several other varieties including some reds. I will definitely be looking to check out one of their red varieties as the weather further begins to cool down. A nice glass of wine and a cool evening, now that is good stuff. Cheers!
